Program Start Time: 6:30 am
Course Description: This continuing education program satisfies the rule by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners and other state dental boards, requiring practitioners to take a course in Nitrous Oxide-Oxygen Administration to obtain a Nitrous Oxide program which meet ADA Guidelines for the Teaching of nitrous oxide. This program will exceed the minimum of 14 hours of instruction including a clinical, hands-on component. This course will document successful completion of a continuing education course to obtain that permit. At the end of the program, the practitioner will understand the Pharmacology of Nitrous Oxide, the anatomy & physiology of conscious sedation, undertake an equipment discussion, review safety provisions, review patient monitoring and legal issues, and discuss complications and prevention management. We will also undertake various case studies and review of clinical scenarios. Updated/ Reviewed July 31, 2025.

•Current pre-sedation checklist requirements
•Review of patient evaluation, systems and vital signs
•Patient work-up and preparation for sedation including medical considerations
•Understand and utilize the components of inhalation sedation equipment
•Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of inhalation sedation
•Discuss the indications and contraindications of inhalation sedation
•Review complications associated with inhalation sedation
•Discuss the prevention, recognition and management of these complications
•Administer inhalation sedation to participants in a clinical setting in a safe and effective manner
•Discuss the abuse potential, occupational hazards and other untoward effects of inhalation agents
